Description:
Herringbone or Chevron? Technical differences, installation cost, and market demand comparison for wholesalers and contractors.
Two Classic Parquet Patterns Explained
Both patterns are trending in high-end residential and boutique commercial projects. But they are not interchangeable – each requires different manufacturing and installation.
1.Herringbone Flooring

Shape: Rectangular planks cut at 90°
Installation: Zigzag pattern, cut ends meet at 90° angle
Plank size: 400–600mm length, 60–90mm width typical
Look: Traditional, woven, more casual elegance
Pros:
Easier to find pre-finished herringbone from stock
Lower waste during installation
Works with both straight and angle-cut corners
2.Chevron Flooring

Shape: Parquet blocks cut at 45° or 60°
Installation: Continuous V-shape pattern, planks align perfectly end to end
Look: Formal, directional, creates optical illusion of larger space
Pros:
More dramatic high-end look
Preferred by luxury hotel designers
Cons:
Higher manufacturing precision required (angle cutting)
Slower installation, more waste
